About Our Organization
The United Way pays half of the costs for providing the books in Gage County and the Imagination Library funds the remaining fee. The monthly price of the program in 2014 was $400, but has grown to $1,200 a month in 2024. Annually the costs are over $14,000. A donation of $25 can sponsor one child per year. Imagination Library is currently one of 12 partner agencies that the Gage County United Way supports financially.
Imagination Library is an early childhood education initiative that provides FREE books to children, from birth to age five. Once enrolled the child will receive a new, age-appropriate book delivered in their name to their home once monthly until their fifth birthday. While the program is free to any family living in Gage County, regardless of income, Gage County United Way is responsible for securing funds to cover the cost of books and shipping fees. We currently serve 573 children.
With your support, we can help every young child find the spark of their own imagination through reading books!
Countless studies document the relationship between early literacy and school performance. By providing the children of our community with quality, age-appropriate books, we seek to:
· Increase children's access to books,
· Encourage parents to read more often to their children,
· Support children in the development of a love for reading, and
· Better prepare children to begin school.
"Imagination Library" is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five in participating communities, no matter their family’s income. Gage County United Way funds and administers this program locally. Reading is the pathway to a brighter future for the children of our community. Spending time with a child and an open book is a wise investment. It helps them dream big, nurturing the seeds of growing talents.
