Current Project: Mural Lighting

Overview: Main Street Beatrice aims to enhance community vibrancy through the illumination of alleyway murals created in 2023. These murals, located in the heart of our downtown, have begun to transform these spaces into vibrant cultural landmarks. The addition of proper lighting will not only enhance their aesthetic appeal but also promote safety and accessibility for residents and visitors alike.

Project Goal: The primary goal of the Mural Lighting project is to raise $5,000 to fund the installation of lighting for our alleyway murals. This will ensure that these artistic creations are visible and enjoyed day and night, contributing to a safer and more inviting community environment.

Impact:

  1. Cultural Enhancement: Lighting the murals will highlight their artistic details and contribute to the cultural identity of our county.

  2. Community Safety: Well-lit spaces discourage vandalism and enhance pedestrian safety, encouraging more people to explore our downtown area.

  3. Tourism and Economic Benefits: Beautifying public spaces often attracts tourists and boosts local businesses, supporting economic growth.

Why It Matters: The alleyway murals represent a collaborative effort to beautify and revitalize our community. By supporting Big Give Gage and our project, you are investing in the long-term sustainability and attractiveness of our downtown area, fostering pride among residents and drawing positive attention to our county.

How You Can Help: Donate today to contribute towards our $5,000 fundraising goal. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to illuminating our community's creativity and spirit.

Join us in making a lasting impact through Big Give Gage. Together, we can light the way to a brighter, more vibrant future for Gage County.

    Bringing Public Art to Beatrice

Beatrice continues to strive forward and positive things are happening! We will be launching more public art in our downtown around the time of Big Give Gage and are very excited to show off our local talent. We continue advancing plans for new public art projects to follow this project, and our two large downtown murals completed in 2020 and 2021. It is our hope that these mural projects provide more reasons for people to visit and walk around downtown.

As part of our continued efforts to see downtown improved and in response to requests from the community, public art has continued to be a priority.  We hope these projects prove to be attractive visual assets that provide new ways to engage with residents and visitors alike!

Main Street Beatrice has worked to explore different forms of public art and plans to continue adding art to the community!

What Do We Expect to Complete This Year?

We are nearing the ability to commission several art projects that utilize the talents of multiple local artists. These projects may be placed in different locations downtown but will center on the alleys near the decorative portion of North 5th Street, between Court and Ella Streets. The art projects commissioned may include a variety of styles from painted mediums, decorative lighting, and maybe even some masaic tile work! Please see some of the concept ideas in our project photo gallery.

Main Street Beatrice has begun investing time and resources to start the process.  We have a short list of artists and will be drafting the necessary agreements (image licenses, art contracts, property owner approvals, etc.).  We expect to complete the next project phase by the fall season of 2023.

The works of art will be selected based on the available budget and the concepts submitted by local artists through a request for qualifications process. All artists selected will receive fair compensation for their work and we will ensure their artwork will be accessible to the public for viewing.

Help Us Get This Project Started

Your support will allow Main Street Beatrice to go beyond the mural projects and see additional art projects as part of our 2023/2024 public art plan and make a difference in our community!

What Do We Want Within the Next Year?

As we look ahead we are proposing several art projects that utilize the talents of multiple local artists. These projects may be placed in different locations downtown but will center on the alleys near the decorative portion of North 5th Street, between Court and Ella Streets. The art projects commissioned may include a variety of styles from painted mediums, decorative lighting, and the potential for 3-D works of art. Please see some of the concept ideas in our project photo gallery.

Main Street Beatrice has begun investing time and resources to start the process.  We have a short list of artists and will be drafting the necessary agreements (image licenses, art contracts, property owner approvals, etc.).  We expect to complete the next project phase in the summer of 2023.

The works of art will be selected based on the available budget and the concepts submitted by local artists through a request for qualifications process. All artists selected will receive fair compensation for their work and we will ensure their artwork will be accessible to the public for viewing.

Our Goal this Big Give Gage

The upcoming alley art project is expected to cost $15,000. Of that, we have raised or obtained pledges of support for around $11,000. This has come from private donations and local grant support. A special thanks to the Hevelone Foundation, Gage County Foundation, and community donations from Big Give Gage and other sources.

Our goal this Big Give day is to raise $4,000 to cross the finish line and begin these new downtown art projects.

  • Mural & Public Art Downtown!

Raised $2,500.50 Towards the Goal of $7,500.00

    Project Wrap Up

Thank you for making 2021's project a success!

The $2,500 raised in 2021 allowed us to complete our second mural project!  This massive mural overlooking 5th and Ella Streets was completed by Sydney Saathoff and was unveiled in October of 2021.

It was completed with financial support from Big Give Gage supporters, The Hevelone Foundation, The Gage County Foundation, Friends of Homestead National Historical Park, and Lepant Law Office.  The total project came to about $17,000.

We were not able to raise enough funds to commission our alley art and vintage-inspired advertisement project initiatives, but we do now have some seed funds to help jumpstart those projects in late 2022 and 2023.

The public feedback we have been receiving on our mural projects has been overwhelmingly positive!  Thank you again!
